Ultrasound examination screens the internal organs for asymptomatic potentially life-threatening tumors, vascular aneurysms, lymph node enlargement, stones, and other diseases before they can be detected by physical exam. Early detection of cancer within certain abdominal and pelvic organs including the colon, ovaries and prostate may not be possible without the use of other tests, such as colonoscopy, blood tests or even biopsy. Prior consultation with a treating physician is strongly recommended.
Reimbursement by insurers varies so patients should check with their insurance company prior to scheduling an examination so they understand their financial obligations at the time of service.
